Mr Aimen Amer
Mr Aimen Amer is a consultant transplant and general surgeon based at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He has expertise in kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation and is the clinical lead for organ utilisation and for donation surgery in Newcastle. He has a specialist interest in gall bladder and hernia surgery which he performs at the Freeman Hospital and privately at the Spire Washington Hospital.
Mr Amer has particular interest and expertise in developing multimodal enhanced recovery pathways after surgery with the aim of empowering and better preparing patients for surgery, promoting speedier recovery as a result.
Mr Amer gained his medical degree (MBChB) from Garyounis University in Libya in 2002. He went on to undertake a master's degree in Advanced Surgical Practice at Cardiff University in 2009, followed by a PhD in Liver Transplantation at Newcastle University in 2013. and a PGCert in Healthcare Leadership at The Open University in 2015. He completed his specialist surgical training in the North East of England and undertook a fellowship in liver transplantation in Kings College Hospital in London in 2020. He is actively involved in clinical research with over 15 peer-reviewed published articles in his field and over 50 presentations in national and international specialist meetings. Mr Amer is a current member of the British and European Hernia Societies and the British Transplantation Society.
